Chandra Shorter, MA
Licensed Professional Counselor

"If you can share your story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can't survive."

I am a Licensed Practicing Counselor and Registered Supervisor with the state of Virginia. I have an M.A. in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and have been working in the counseling field for over 12 years. I have a background in LGBTQ+ issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, and ADHD. I have certifications in letter writing for gender affirming care and trauma treatment.

My Approach

In a world where we are inundated with so much "noise" at the touch of our fingertips, I want to offer you a quiet space to come, turn off the noise for a while, and process through the things that matter to you. Whether you're dealing with life's stressors, suffering under the weight of anxiety and depression, needing assistance processing through trauma, looking for new tools to cope, or simply searching for a reassuring and validating outlet to help sift through the heavy emotions we all encounter at some point or another, I am ready to come alongside you and walk you through your healing journey.

I will ride with you in the passenger seat and help you navigate through the difficult times in your life, while also providing comfort, a listening ear, psychoeducational resources, helpful tools and skills to manage symptoms, and practices that will be valuable assets to you as you take control and step boldly into your new destination.

Regardless of what you look like, where you're from, who you love, or who you authentically choose to be, I want to be an ally for you and a facilitator for change. I look forward to meeting you and beginning your journey of healing together! I also have an emotional support dog available on site as an additional comfort and support for clients.

Inspiration

What inspired me to be a therapist was always being the friend who listened and gave good advice when I was younger, and when I got to college and took my first psychology class, all the pieces fell into place for me. I definitely feel like counseling is what I was born to do. I love being a part of peoples' healing journey.

Reward

The most rewarding aspect of my work is seeing the "ah ha" moments where everything I've been working on with a client clicks into place and they're able to find the answers they've been looking for.

Balance

Outside of providing counseling, the hobbies and interests I enjoy are enjoy cooking, kayaking, yoga, throwing pottery, reading, macrame, thrifting, watching reality tv, karaoke, community theatre, and swimming.

Regardless of what you look like, where you're from, who you love, or who you authentically choose to be, I want to be an ally for you and a facilitator for change. I look forward to meeting you and beginning your journey of healing together!
