Bio

I believe counseling can provide a new perspective on challenges that may feel difficult to face alone. Having a safe place where you can be heard, understood, and supported can be life-changing. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable sharing your story without fear of judgment and leave each session knowing that together we can build a path forward.

I especially enjoy working with children, adolescents, and individuals with developmental disabilities, as well as those who have experienced foster care or are struggling in school. My counseling philosophy is rooted in the belief that every person is uniquely valuable and has the ability to shape their own story. I use a person-centered, strengths-based, solution-focused, attachment-based, and trauma-informed approach to help clients build confidence, discover their strengths, and move toward meaningful growth.

If you're looking for a counselor who will listen with curiosity, creativity, and compassion, I would be honored to walk alongside you. My hope is that every client leaves knowing they are uniquely valuable and capable of far more than they may realize.

Professional Experience

Sara's experience includes mobile crisis response through New River Valley Community Services, mentoring children and adolescents for more than nine years, and serving as a Patient Coordinator in a women's healthcare clinic. Growing up in a foster family and working with children from diverse backgrounds has given her a deep appreciation for each person's unique story and a passion for helping young people and families thrive.

Note: At FSS, a Counseling Intern is a graduate student who has completed 1+ years of a master’s degree in counseling and typically has  3+ years of full time experience in a variety of health and human services settings.  They provide services under the supervision of residents and licensed counselors until they have met all state requirements to become a Resident in Counseling.
